Conway Prepared

There are a number of ways that the City of Conway and it's citizens can prepare for disasters either natural or man-made. First and foremost we suggest staying informed about emergency situations and community alerts by signing up for the CODE RED community notification for Faulkner County Arkansas. By doing so you can stay informed on many types of community notifications such as: evacuation notices, missing child reports, and severe weather warnings.

The Conway Emergency Operations Center (CEOC) building was completed in July 2001. The building is a 6000-square-foot state-of-the art model of interoperability. According to U.S. Undersecretary for Department of Homeland Security, Asa P. Hutchinson, “The Conway application was so well-presented and documented, that the project will be used as a demonstration for other cities to follow.” A 10 station dispatch room is housed in the center of the building. The building’s location and design make it similar to an underground shelter above ground. The structure was designed to withstand any natural or man-made disaster and to serve as a centralized command post for multiple agencies in the event of a disaster.

Outdoor Warning SirenOutdoor Warning Siren System

The City of Conway Outdoor Warning Siren system consists of 22 sirens strategically placed throughout the City. The sirens may be activated individually or simultaneously to provide a general alert for the entire community. The Outdoor Warning Sirens can be controlled remotely or from the Emergency Operations Center. The Outdoor Warning Siren system uses unique tones to alert residents to the imminent approach of severe weather and other emergencies requiring immediate notification. This system is a part of an emergency warning network designed to provide for the safety of our citizens. Radio, television, and CODE RED notification System as well as public address systems in fire and police vehicles, may also be used to provide information to citizens, as needed. The Information Technology Department has the responsibility for maintenance and testing of the sirens. The Conway Emergency Operations Center monitors weather conditions and is responsible for setting off an alert. If you notice a specific siren is not working during a normal test of the system (Wednesday at noon, except when weather is overcast), please contact us via email OutdoorWarningSirens@cityofconway.org or phone (501) 513-3521. You will need to provide the siren number and location. The siren number is located on the large control box below the siren in large orange numbers.

Safety Tips

A power outage is just one type of emergency that can occur in Conway. When the power is out for a long period of time, as in any emergency, requests for fire, police, medical, and other public services will begin to mount. At some point, the increased demand for services could result in delayed response times.

For this reason, every resident should learn to be self-reliant in any emergency. Even though rotating power outages typically last only a few hours, individuals should be prepared to be independent for 24 hours or longer.
