Conway has a mayor-council form of government. The eight member City Council is the community's legislative body. It sets policy, approves budgets, and adopts ordinances and resolutions.
The city is divided into four wards, each represented by two council members, one elected at-large and one elected ward specific, for a two-year term. Click here to view the ward map. The Office of Mayor is a full-time position, elected at-large for a four-year term. The mayor manages city services, presides over City Council meetings, acts as liaison to governmental agencies and city groups, and represents the city at official functions.
Regular council meetings are generally held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30pm; committee meetings are held on the same days at 5:30pm in the District Court Building at 810 Parkway in downtown Conway.
Other elected officials are the City Clerk/Treasurer, the City Attorney, and the District Court Judge. The City Clerk serves a four year term and is the custodian of all the laws, finances and ordinances. The City Clerk also keeps a regular and correct journal of the proceedings of the city council.
The City Attorney serves a four-year term and represents the City in legal matters, including serving as prosecutor in city matters in District Court.
The District Court Judge serves a four-year term and presides over the District Court.
As the chief executive officer of the city, the Mayor manages each of the city's departments.
